When it’s raining – parenting at a standstill

When it’s raining

“Thunder only happens when it’s raining”
Goes the chorus of The Corrs
As I find myself waiting
For my son’s release from track
A camp program he initially wanted
But now is trying to double back
He can’t
He can’t
Boy needs to learn to keep commitments
To keep his promises
Not be one of the delinquents
Choosing to watch YouTube all day
Playing online video games
Endless dopamine streams and brain decay
He can’t
He can’t
Pending dismissal, a thunderstorm rages
A streak of lightning flashes
I’m staying in my car like the sages
Who’s more trapped in their situation?
Thunder drowns the downpour’s rhythm
As we await each other’s action
Patiently as we can
Yes, we can

Lightning storm
