He stands there

She saw him standing there
And pretended not to care.
Didn’t look. Didn’t smile.
Just let her thoughts linger on him for a while.
Waited for the tightness in her chest to pass.
Tried to erase feelings of the past.

He gave the world special meaning.
That made her write silly poems
And made her feel silly feelings.
She’d hate him and want him.
Fantasize about him or curse him.
Then complain that everything’s confusing.

Still, he doesn’t know a thing.
She simply hides feelings that are erupting.
She saw him standing there
And pretended not to care.
With so much inside
She turned away with a sigh.
