I crush a lot.
As a youth I crushed on many boys
And a few girls
Became an expert at stolen glances
Suppressed belly swirls
Something about that person
That’s worth another look
Might be the smile, the eyes
Or something inside the book.
As an adult I’d still crush
On an unsuspecting coworker,
Perhaps someone on the subway,
Another straphanger,
Who sometimes might
Just glance my way
A brief moment of electricity
But I turn away
Fiddling
With my wedding ring
Knowing the crush
Will never amount to anything.

Thank you!
